Gibraltar – The Government is pleased to announce that as a result of representations by the President of the Gibraltar Senior Citizens Association, Mr Manolo Ruiz, it has decided to address the disparity in the fares being paid by men and women between the ages of 60 and 65.

In the past there has been confusion as to who qualified to pay the reduced pensioner rate as different criteria had been applied as to who was a pensioner by various Government bodies. The Government has now accepted the recommendation that fares should be equalised and therefore no person over the age of 60 will pay a bus fare on any bus operated by the Gibraltar Bus Company, other than Route 9.

The relevant administrative and legislative measures are being put into place to give effect to this. As from next Thursday 10 June 2010, no person over the age of 60 will pay a bus fare on any bus operated by the Gibraltar Bus Company other than Route 9.
