BERLIN, Germany – Egypt is reinforcing its position as a premier destination for the German market at ITB Berlin, the world’s leading travel trade show. Following a landmark year for international tourism and strategic investment in experiential travel, Egypt is increasingly attracting German tour operators, airlines, and travel professionals seeking culturally authentic, high-quality, and sustainable holiday options.

Germany remains one of Egypt’s most critical European source markets. The demand for cultural tourism increased in parallel with the Red Sea leisure, diving, wellness, and bespoke journeys which underlines the country’s growing significance. In 2025, Egypt welcomed 19 million international visitors—a 21% increase over the previous year and more than four times the global average—solidifying its role as a strategic tourism hub in the Eastern Mediterranean and Eurasian markets.

“German travelers value authenticity and quality infrastructure,” said Sherif Fathy, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities. “Egypt offers a unique combination of world-class heritage sites, modern resorts, and emerging experiential products that meet these high expectations.” German visitor numbers increased by 11.4% in 2025 compared to the previous year.

Strategic Highlights for the German Market

  • Red Sea Leisure & Wellness: Hurghada, El Gouna, Marsa Alam, and Sharm El Sheikh continue to lead for Germans seeking year-round sunshine and world-class diving. The integration of premium resorts with specialized wellness retreats positions the Red Sea as a top-tier leisure destination.
  • Cultural Tourism & Heritage: The Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) near the Giza Pyramids is setting new global standards for the museum experience. Interest in archaeological exploration remains high, with visits to historic sites and museums rising 33.5% last year.
  • Urban Life & Gastronomy: Cairo is evolving into a lifestyle destination, offering a vibrant mix of contemporary arts, traditional markets, and high-end culinary experiences for travelers seeking modern city exploration.
  • Sustainability & Nature-Based Travel: In response to the German market’s prioritization of environmental responsibility, Egypt is expanding its portfolio of eco-friendly resorts, desert adventures, and nature-focused tourism.
  • MICE & Business Travel: Significant investment in conference infrastructure and resort-based meeting facilities makes Egypt an increasingly attractive option for incentive travel and international corporate events.
  • Connectivity and Accessibility: Strong aviation links between Germany and Egypt—comprising both scheduled and charter flights to Red Sea resorts and cultural hubs—provide essential flexibility across all travel segments. This connectivity ensures that German tour operators can continue to offer a diverse and competitive range of tailored experiences.

Through its presence at ITB Berlin, Egypt seeks to deepen collaboration with German travel stakeholders, forge new partnerships, and align its tourism offerings with the evolving preferences of one of Europe’s most influential markets.
