Wallenborn Transports S.A., a leading European supplier of logistics in road feeder transportations, air cargo distribution and related services with home base in Luxembourg has acquired Rutges Cargo B.V., a leading air cargo distribution specialist based in Amsterdam.

Luxembourg/Amsterdam – Following the announcement on 5 August of the acquisition of Haugsted, Wallenborn Transports S.A. is further strengthening and complementing its current network and product service offering. Now with the acquisition of Rutges Cargo B.V. with head office in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, Wallenborn is continuing to implement its strategy to significantly extend its reach and expertise in European logistics. Rutges Cargo, which provides logistics for road transports and warehousing in general, high value and perishable cargo sectors, has a particularly strong position in Northern Europe including the Benelux and UK.

Rutges Cargo today with offices in Amsterdam, Brussels Frankfurt, London and Paris was originally founded in 1886 dealing in coals and transporting them by horse. Since 1999, it has been part of the Wim Bosman Group with a specialised strategy to focus on air cargo distribution products. For the future however, The Wim Bosman Group recognised the importance of Rutges’ further development in its being integrated into a company whose strategy is more focussed on air cargo distribution. This allows Wim Bosman to focus on its core logistics business

Serving more than 100 airports in Europe on a scheduled basis, Rutges Cargo offers an array of specialist services and is a leading European player in the air cargo distribution segment. Services include express, fresh logistics and specialised secure transports as well as handling services. Rutges Cargo has also played a key role in furthering industry development such as board representation at TAPA (The Transported Asset Protection Association) and is an active member of the Cargo2000 group. Its customer portfolio extends to large freighter and wide-body distribution products throughout Europe as well as specialised logistics services for all segments of the industry.

“Rutges is a very well known name in the distribution industry and has a very strong customer base and distribution capability. We will strengthen our position in Benelux and Western Europe and particularly in the UK, which will become an important market for us. Our first priority will be to ensure that the customers of Rutges will see all the advantages of our product focus on quality and efficiencies with extended network distribution capability. It is deep partnerships with our customers which allow us to deliver the product exactly as they need it”. said Frantz Wallenborn, President of the Group. Dr. Ludwig Bertsch, Chairman of the Board added, “Rutges is a strong brand in the industry and has also done much with regards to security, IT development and distribution concepts. We are looking forward to an efficient integration of both of our capabilities to continue with our strategy to be the leading general and air cargo distribution supplier in Europe”. Mario Schoofs, CCO at Wim Bosman Group commented: “The synergies between Wim Bosman, mainly focused on integrated logistic services, road, air and ocean freight services, and Rutges Cargo were limited. In Rutges and Wallenborn coming together in the future, we will provide for both our customers and our staff, the best of two solutions”.

Both parties have agreed on confidentiality of the terms and conditions of the acquisition.
