Airline Inaugurates Service to Washington Dulles International Airport

DALLAS – Want a new party to vote for in the November elections?  Join Southwest Airlines‘ LUV Party at Washington Dulles International Airport as its Employees campaign for you to „Vote Southwest!“  Today’s campaign rally kicks off the airline’s service in Northern Virginia, and complements existing service at the carrier’s Baltimore/Washington operation.  To take advantage of the LUV Party’s new service from Dulles, or any of Southwest’s other 62 destinations, visit: southwest.com/jp/luvhome.shtml?src=PR_IAD_100506

For more than 35 years, Southwest Airlines has democratized the skies by giving our Customers more Freedom.  We give you the Freedom to choose your own seat; we do not nickel and dime you for snacks, blankets, or pillows; and our Customer Service delivery is legendary,“ said Gary Kelly, Southwest Airlines Chief Executive Officer. „Now, our Washington, D.C. and northern Virginia Customers have another choice in airports when choosing Southwest Airlines.“

Southwest (NYSE: LUV), whose ticker symbol is LUV, hosted a campaign- themed event today inviting Customers to „Vote Southwest!“ and become a member of the airline’s LUV Party.  Kelly kicked off the rally with a „campaign“ video.  In typical political convention style, Southwest Airlines Employees proudly displayed large signs representing each city the airline is serving nonstop from Dulles.  To conclude the rally, Jim Bennett, President/CEO of Metro Washington Airport Authority, swore in Kelly as the Leader of the LUV Party, allowing Customers the Freedom to Fly anywhere Southwest serves. Southwest Airlines Employees, wearing festive election hats with red, white, and blue bands and T-shirts that read „Vote Southwest,“ cheered loudly as red, white, and blue confetti and balloons rained down from the sky.

Southwest began its Dulles service today from two gates in the B Concourse with 40 local Employees.  The airline offers 12 daily nonstop departures to the following cities: Chicago Midway (seven daily), Las Vegas (one daily), Orlando (two daily), and Tampa Bay (two daily). The airline offers direct or connecting service to 35 other destinations such as Denver, Ft. Lauderdale/Hollywood, and Los Angeles.

With their new found Freedom, Dulles Customers can enjoy Southwest’s convenient, low-fare service with advance purchase tickets, because the airline is extending its Dulles introductory fares.  Customers can take advantage of 14-day advance fares as low as $79 one-way to Chicago Midway, Orlando, or Tampa Bay.  Southwest also is offering Customers a seven-day advance fare as low as $59 one-way to Chicago Midway only.  Customers can head to Las Vegas for as little as $99 one-way with Southwest Airlines‘ 14-day advance purchase fares.  (See fare rules.)

Fare rules: Tickets for $99 and $79 one-way fares must be purchased at least 14 days before departure or within one day of making reservations, whichever comes first. Tickets for $59 one-way fares must be purchased at least seven days before departure or within one day of making reservations, whichever comes first.  The fares are available for purchase today through Nov. 20, 2006, and are valid for travel today through the end of the published
schedule (currently Mar. 9, 2007). Fares are available one-way. When combining fares, all ticketing restrictions apply.  Seats are limited.  Advertised fares may vary by flight and day of week and will not be available on some flights that operate during very busy travel times.  Fares do not include a $3.30 federal segment tax per takeoff and landing; airport-assessed passenger facility charges (PFC) of up to $9 one-way; and U.S. government-imposed
September 11th Security Fees of up to $5 one-way.  Fares are subject to change until ticketed.  Tickets are nonrefundable but (except for tickets purchased through our Group Tickets program) may be applied toward the purchase of future travel on Southwest Airlines.  Fares are valid on Southwest-operated published, scheduled service only.  Any change in itinerary could result in an increase in fare, depending upon whether discount seats are still available on the new flights.  Fares are not necessarily common rated in the Washington, D.C., and the Bay area. Southwest Airlines is the number one airline in terms of domestic boardings.  With the addition of its Dulles service, Southwest Airlines will operate more than 3,150 daily flights to 63 cities in 32 states.  Southwest Airlines employs more than 32,000 people nationwide.
