Outrigger Keauhou Beach Resort hosts two days of java-laced dining, art and international cupping competition, November 8 & 9, 2006

Kailua-Kona, Hawaii — If you jive about java, you’ll be abuzz about the coffee-laced events being planned at the Outrigger Keauhou Beach Resort this November 8 and 9 during the 2006 Kona Coffee Cultural Festival.

A gala dining event, art competitions and exhibits, and a prestigious cupping contest are among the java-jolting fun into which travelers bound for Hawaii’s Big Island can dunk themselves.

One of the highlights will be the fifth annual Kona Coffee Culinary Invitational, a sumptuous evening of professional island chefs „brewing“ up culinary cuisine ranging from appetizers and entrees to delicious desserts, all featuring 100% Kona coffee as an ingredient.  This signature event takes place at the Outrigger Keauhou Beach from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on November 8,
and will feature ample samplings of innovative java-laced cuisine, plus entertainment, wine and beer samplings.  Tickets are $40 in advance or $45 at the door, and are available at the hotel. Call 808-324-2554.

Daytime activities at the hotel include the Gevalia Kona Cupping Contest in which the nation’s top Kona Coffee farmers vie for the honor of having grown the finest of coffee beans.  Entries, all of which must have been grown in the fertile Kona coffee belts, are judged by an international panel of experts. The free event is open to spectators, and will take place on November 8 and 9. Winners will be announced on Thursday, November 9.

The hotel will also be the host site of the festival’s Gevalia Coffee Art Exhibit, featuring original works that feature and/or have been inspired by Kona coffee, and the 9th annual Keauhou Resort Kona Coffee Label & Website

Competition, a display of the best works used by Kona Coffee farmers to successfully market their products. Art-lovers are welcome to view the
exhibits for free on November 8 and 9.

The Kona Coffee Culinary Invitational and other coffee-inspired activities taking place at the Outrigger Keauhou Beach Resort are  part of the Big Island’s Kona Coffee Cultural Festival, Hawaii’s oldest food event, scheduled for November 3 to 12, 2006. For more information about the Kona Coffee Cultural Festival, contact Current Events at 808-326-7820 or visit
