IBERIA STARTS A CODE SHARE AGREEMENT WITH THE RUSSIAN AIRLINE S7

The Spanish airline and its future oneworld partner have signed an agreement over Madrid-Moscow flights

Madrid – As of today, Iberia will start a code share agreement with S7, the largest Russian domestic air carrier by the number of passengers, on the flights between Moscow Domodedovo airport and Madrid.

Iberia’s code will be placed on the weekly flight that S7 operates between the Russian and the Spanish capitals on Saturdays. The Russian airline will placed its code on the 11 flights a week that Iberia offers between both cities wit Airbus A319 aircraft.    

From Madrid airport, passengers will be able to connect with Iberia’s flights to another 36 Spanish destinations, Lisbon and Porto in Portugal, 17 Latin American cities, Boston, Chicago, Miami and New York, as well as eight destinations in Africa of the airline’s network.

S7 is the largest Russian domestic air carrier by the number of passengers and will become a member of the oneworld alliance in 2010. It flies to 72 destinations worldwide, 38 of them in Russia. It has one of the most extensive networks covering Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States (former Soviet republics). Its fleet is made of 26 Airbus A320, seven A310 and two B767 aircraft.

Iberia flies to Moscow‘ Domodedovo airport since March 2005. In 2009, it carried about 154.000 passengers on its routes to Russia. Among the favourite destinations of Iberia’s passengers flying from this country are Alicante and Malaga in Spain, as well as Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic and México D.F. At the end of March 2010, Iberia will increase its offer between Moscow and Madrid to two daily flights, while on June 1st, it will resume its flights between St. Petersburg and the Spanish capital with two weekly frequencies.
